Academy celebrating its 3^rd Birthday!

The Academy is 3 years-old this week and as it enters its fourth year planning continues for the 4^th Open Youth Tournament which will be re-named the Jamie G Youth Memorial, the 4^th Presentation and Celebration Evening and the Annual Fund Raising Darts Marathon. Membership has reached 117 since its inception with the recent signings of Brendan Pedge and Nathan Richards.

The men’s 601 pairs’ round-robin resulted in a tie between Gary Thorne and his partner Jordan Edmonds and Dan Read and 11 year old debutant Nathan Richards with both pairings enjoying 4 wins.

Adam Major and Ray Lockington finished 3^rd on three wins. Read and Richards enjoyed the fastest leg of the night a 23 darter while Conner Bevis recorded the night’s solitary maximum.

It was another tie in the 501 pairs’ round robin as Conner Bestford and Hugo Candeias tied with the improving Nick Chilton and Sam Pike.

The new training dartboards were introduced at last week’s session with the Juniors and senior Ladies making first use. The boards which have been developed in Holland are much different to the conventional dartboards, are black in colour with no wire and brightly coloured target areas which focus on key positions of the standard board.

Ellie May, Connor Samways, Charlotte Raynsford, Nathan Richards and Shane Reidy were Hangman champions.

Congratulations to Ray Lockington who had great success at the recent Overton League finals night. Ray, 13, made it to the last 8 of the singles before partnering Pete Nutley to the Random Pairs title.

Unicorn Darts Youth Academy

Congratulations to Conner Bevis (right) who won the Hayling Island Youth event last Saturday when defeating Craig Brown in the final from a field of over 30..

It was Team-Week at the Academy and best individual performances in the 701 round-robin games came from Dan Miller (below) who had top average 22.41, Conner Bevis had highest out of 68 and Sean White and Miller shared the fastest leg in 28 darts. In the 501 round robins; Jamie Tarrant had the best average in 18.4, Sam Pike the fastest leg 24 darts, Sam Ellis the most wins and Luke Goddard the highest check-out.

The 301 section saw good wins for Christine Pike, Hugo Candeias, Rhys Collins and Harriet Raynsford who also had the fastest leg. In the remaining matches Conner Bestford was tops with 4 wins from 4 followed by Craig Pike with 3 and Mel Oakley was best lady.

Unicorn have sent the Academy revolutionary new practice boards to assess and after the junior session, Regan Preston, Charlie Deavall, Ryan Rowe, Luke Baird, Ryan Morgans and Amy Thorne were selected to be the first to trial the boards this week.

Unicorn Darts Youth Academy

Congratulations to Harriet Raynsford, Sian Monk and Connor Samways who picked up the Player of the month awards for February and to Conner Bevis, Danielle Hopper, Kelly Paine and Ryan Morgans who were voted top for March.

At the outshot clinic last week there were good performances from Amanda Paine and Harriet Raynsford for the Ladies, Oli Burgess, Hugo Candeias and Scott Burton Pye enjoyed good finishes on board 5. Billy Day topped board 2 including a 120 finish but the best check-out was recorded by Jordan Edmonds a superb 156. 

Board 1 had Dan Read again in good form closely followed by Sean White and Daniel Miller. Read had the fastest leg a 7 dart 261 and a maximum.

Finally on board 3 Sam Pike enjoyed a successful evening along with the fast improving Jamie Tarrant.

In the junior section Shane Reidy won four from 4 and Luke Baird and Charlie Deavall both won two while Charlotte Raynsford won three from four in the girls section.

This weekend the Academy is on their travels again this time to the London School of Darts in Wandsworth.
