18th September
Celebration time for Youth and veteran Les.
Unicorn Darts Youth Academy:

The Academy is celebrating
the news that Gavin Howard, Conner Bevis, Gary Thorne
and Dan Read have been selected for the county youth
squad. This now brings the total to eight academy
players representing Hampshire following on from
Charlotte Burgess, Arron Monk, Adam Major and Sean
White.
Back at the Academy,
singles week had the four groups battling out week one.
Group A singles had Dan Read in best form winning all
four 701 legs in 23.37. Karl Brooks also had a good
night winning 3 which included a 177 set up shot while
Gavin Howard had the highest check out, a 96. In group
B, 11 year-old protégé Nathan Richards won 4 from 5
including a 64 check out while Liam Deavall had the
fastest leg in 26 darts. Jamie Tarrant was on top form
in group C with 5 wins and a 20 dart leg and Sam Pike
bounced back to form with a vengeance winning all her
games including a pair of 25 darters and a 60 check out.
Top of the juniors was
Michaela Tobin in the girls, Kian Coffin, Shane Reidy,
Charlie Deavall and Ryan Morgans all enjoyed a hat-trick
of wins in the boys.
Les Brant Classic
Ranking Singles:

Mark Cox was in brilliant
form last Saturday when defeating rising Andover star
Arron Monk in a quality final of the Les Brant Classic
Ranking Singles.
It was a pleasure to have
77 years young Les not only presenting the awards but
also taking part with son Keith who revelled in the
standard of darts throughout the day.
There were numerous 11 dart
legs and 5 closures of 130 or more including a 160 check
out by Chris Bailey. At the stage finals Monk (28.17)
was drawn to play another young Andover darter Dennis
Simpson (25.46), who has been enjoying a fruitful
summer.
Monk’s clinical finishing
secured a 5-2 victory in an entertaining match. As a
spectacle the second semi final between Steve Willard
(31.97) and Mark Cox (31.22) was probably one of the
finest ever at an Andover event. The match went the
distance with Cox edging through 5-4 and sharing 5
maximums, 41 scores of 100 or more and 3 twelve darters.
Andover’s John Gaffney
played well to reach the quarters as did Swindon’s Tony
Clark, Berkshire’s Craig Griffiths and Southampton’s Ron
Atwill.
